In this webinar, Dr. Brown and Dr. Tannehill will discuss the early experiences with COVID-19 in the ICU and all the hurdles that had to be overcome, like PPE shortages, lockdowns, political battles, etc. There will also be a discussion on how osteopathic physicians have had to step up during this health crisis and be patient educators regarding masks, lockdowns, and vaccines.  

Learning Objectives:
1) Describe the early experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the ICU and the hurdles that had to overcome.
2) Explain the need for physicians to be patient educators on COVID-19 issues like wearing masks, understanding lockdowns, and vaccines.  
3) Understand future ways COVID may affect the practice of medicine.

Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation.

Dr. Michael Brown is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his medical residency in Family and Community Medicine at Truman Medical Centers. Currently, he works for Meritas Health in North Kansas City, where he practices family medicine. Dr. Brown has held many positions within the American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and currently serves on the MAOPS board where he holds the office of President-Elect. He lives in Smithville, MO with his wife and six children.

Dr. David Tannehill is currently the Clinical Director of Critical Care Medicine for Mercy Clinic in St. Louis, Missouri.  He is a Past-President of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons (MAOPS) and a Past-President and current member of the Missouri Board of Professional Registration for the Healing Arts. Dr. Tannehill is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Saint Louis University. 
 

During his time at Mercy Clinic and Mercy Virtual, he has won multiple awards for teaching excellence. He has held an integral role in developing Mercy’s Sepsis program. His leadership has helped develop the Missouri Medical Board and the approach to telemedicine and physician wellness that MAOPS has adopted. He is a 1998 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and a 2005 graduate of AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM) in Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Tannehill is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is also board certified in Neurocritical Care Medicine by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties.
