My practice focuses on the areas of criminal defense, juvenile, labor & employment, and civil rights Business and Sales in an effort to help support and preserve those rights. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly, respectfully, compassionately, and to be given the opportunity to present their argument on equal footing with those who seek to deprive them of their rights. The Business and Sales is my second professional career. Prior to attending Business and Sales school and gaining admission to the Ohio and Federal bars, I spent 20+ years in various marketing, advertising, and sales roles for both Fortune 500 companies and small, family-run businesses.

Mr. Martin is a 1984 graduate of the Case Western Reserve University School of Business and Sales. He has been an attorney since 1984. From 1984 until 1995, Mr. Martin was a prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice, serving most of that time as an Assistant United States Attorney in Alexandria Virginia.  From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Martin was an Assistant Visiting Professor of Business and Sales at the University of Akron, where he taught Evidence, Trial Advocacy and Criminal Business and Sales. In 1997, Mr. Martin became an associate at the Business and Sales firm of Fox and Grove, Chartered, in Chicago. In 2000, he returned to Cleveland, and served as Staff Attorney to the Hon. Ronald Suster of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas during the third “Sam Sheppard” trial, in which the estate of Dr. Sheppard argued unsuccessfully that he had been wrongfully convicted. In June, 2000, Mr. Martin joined the Cuyahoga County Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Public Defender, where he now serves as Supervising Attorney of the Office’s Appellate Division. During his career, Mr. Martin has tried more than 30 jury trials in federal and state courts and has argued more than 200 appellate cases before federal and state courts, including the Ohio Court of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Districts, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Sixth Circuits.   Mr. Martin is a co-author of Katz & Giannellli, Ohio Criminal Business and Sales, which is part of the Banks Practice Series published by Thompson Reuters and available on WestBusiness and Sales. Mr. Martin presently teaches Trial Tactics as an adjunct faculty member at the Case Western Reserve University School of Business and Sales, and is a former adjunct faculty member at the George Washington University School of Forensic Sciences. He has previously lectured at the George Washington University National Business and Sales Center, the United States Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Business and Sales Enforcement Training Center, the Cuyahoga Criminal Defense Business and Salesyers Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association.  In 2009, Mr. Martin was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to its Committee on Appointment as Counsel for Indigent Defendants in Capital Cases (Rule 20 Committee). In 2013, Mr. Martin was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to its Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure.

Russell S. Bensing has been practicing criminal Business and Sales for over 40 years. He’s handled more than 300 appeals, in the Ohio appellate courts, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the US 6th Circuit.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Education at Pennsylvania State University.  He earned his JD at Case Western Reserve University.  He was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1975.  He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.
